CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER

The El Camino College Child Development Center is a unique learning environment for children and adults; the children and their parents as they experience the educational setting, and for college students as they apply classroom theory in the laboratory school setting.

Children are active participants in their learning process.  Children gain knowledge by building on their experiences.  They learn through play that fosters intellectual growth, language, social, emotional, and physical development.

Our curriculum is based on our knowledge of child development and the individual needs, interests and abilities of children.  Both group and individual experiences are provided in order for children to develop a strong sense of self-esteem, competency, and autonomy.  Research shows that our developmental curriculum helps prepare children for kindergarten learning.

Regular, two-way communication between home and school is encouraged and families are welcome to visit at all times.  We work in partnership with each child's parent to promote the growth and development of their child.  Together we guide children in order to develop the skills necessary to learn to live together, think divergently, and acquire skills that will help them be successful learners.

The El Camino College Child Development Center is accredited by the National Assoc. for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
