ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTS

High school students who enroll at El Camino College may petition for college credit based on high school Advanced Placement courses. Credit will be given for the following courses if the student has taken the appropriate Advanced Placement Test and received a score of 3,4 or 5.  (No credit will be given for a score of 1 or 2.)  The maximum number of units granted will be 15.

Students who plan to transfer are advised that the specific transfer institution will determine unit and course credit for AP exams.  Please refer to the College Catalog or the website of the appropriate transfer institution for specific information.


Art (History of Art) Examination:
     Art 2 (History of Western Art) (3 units);
     Art 3 (History of Western Art) (3 units)

Art (Studio Art) Examination:
     Art 10ab (Drawing Fundamentals I) or
     31abcd (Three-Dimensional Design) or
     37ab (Two-Dimensional Design) (3 units)
[Note: Credit will be assigned after review by the El Camino College Art Department.]

Biology Examination:
     Biology 10 (Fundamentals) (4 units)

Chemistry Examination:  
     Chemistry 1A (General Chemistry I) (5 units)
[Note:  The student must have a score of 4 or 5 and provide a laboratory portfolio to the Dean of Natural Sciences for evaluation for credit.]

Computer Science Examination:
     Computer Science 1 (Problem Solving and Program Design Using C++)
         (4 units) - Score of 4 or 5 on Computer Science A
            Examination, or 3 or 4 on AB Examination
     Computer Science 1 and 2 (Introduction To Data Structures)
          (9 units) - Score of 5 on Computer Science AB
           Examination
 
English (Language and Composition) Examination:
     English 1A (Reading and Composition) (4 units) - Score of 3 or 4
     English 1A (Reading and Composition) and English 1B
          (Literature and Composition) (7 units) - Score of 5 

English (Literature and Composition) Examination:
     English 1A (Reading and Composition) (4 units) or
          English 1B (Composition and Literature) (3 units) - Score of 3 or 4   
     English 1A (Reading and Composition) and English 1B
          (Literature and Composition) (7 units) - Score of 5 

Economics (Microeconomics) Examination:
     Economics 2 (Principles of Economics: Microeconomics Theory) (3 units)

Economics (Macroeconomics) Examination:
     Economics 1 (Principles of Economics: Macroeconomics) (3 units)

Foreign Language Examination: 
     Two consecutive courses for a total of 8 units.

Government and Politics (American) Examination:
     Political Science 1 (Governments of U.S. and California) (3 units)

Government and Politics (Comparative) Examination:
     Political Science 2 (Comparative Government) (3 units)

History Examination:
     History 1A–1B (American) (6 units)
     History 4 (European) (3 units)

Math Examination: 
     Mathematics 150 (Elementary Probability and Statistics)
          (4 units) - Score of 4 or 5 on Statistics Examination
[Note:  Students are advised that some universities may not accept an AP score in lieu of Mathematics 150.  Please see a counselor for further information.]

     Mathematics 190 (Single Variable Calculus and Analytical Geometry I)
          (5 units) - Score of 3 or 4 on Calculus A-B Examination 
[Note:  Students placed in Mathematics 191 and upon completion of that course with grade of C or better will be granted credit for Mathematics 190.]

     Mathematics 190-191 (Single Variable Calculus and Analytical Geometry I
          & II) (9 units) - Score of 5 on Calculus A-B Examination or score of
          3, 4, or 5 on Calculus B-C Examination. 
[Note:  Students placed in Mathematics 220 and upon completion of that course with grade of C or better will be granted credit for Mathematics 190 and 191.]

Physics Examination:
      Physics 2A (General Physics)(4 units) - Score of 5 on Physics B
           Examination 
     Physics 1A (Mechanics of Solids) (4 units) - Score of 5 on Physics C
           Examination

Psychology Examination:
     Psychology 5 (General Psychology) (3 units)
