ARTICULATION AGREEMENTS

Definition of Articulation : Articulation is the process of developing a formal, written agreement that identifies a course or a group of courses offered on a "sending" campus that are comparable to, or acceptable in lieu of, specific course requirements at a "receiving" campus. Successful completion of an articulated course assures the student and the faculty that the student has taken the appropriate course, received the necessary instruction and preparation, and that similar outcomes can be assured, enabling progression to the next level of instruction at the receiving institution.

El Camino College articulation agreements with the California State University and University of California can be found on ASSIST. For additional agreements with independent and private colleges as well as some out of state universities, students should make an appointment with a counselor in the Student Services Center.

ASSIST (Articulation System Stimulating Interinstitutional Transfer) ASSIST is an online student transfer information system that shows how course credits earned at one public California college or university can be applied when transferred to another. ASSIST is the official repository of articulation for California's public colleges and universities and provides the most accurate and up-to-date information about student transfer in California.

CAN (California Articulation Number System) is a cross-reference course numbering system designed to identify courses of comparable content, maintain standards of academic rigor for those courses, and insure their transfer between and among participating institutions. Courses identified with a California Articulation Number (CAN) assure students that CAN courses on one participating campus will be accepted in lieu of the comparable CAN courses on another participating campus.
