ASSESSMENT / TESTING FAQ's

Do I have to take a placement test?

Yes, if you are going to enroll into a course that requires a placement test, such as English, ESL, or Math courses. (See Class Schedule or College Catalog for pre-requisites.)

Do I need an appointment?

No, testing is on a first-come, first-served drop-in basis.

Where is the Testing Office located?

In the Student Services Center, 2nd floor, Room 217.

When is the Testing Office open for testing?

Monday through Thursday               11:00am – 6:00pm

Friday                                                11:00am – 1:00pm

Where can I call for additional testing information?

The phone number of the Testing Office is 310/660-3405 (live and recorded information).  You may call between 10:00am and 8:00pm (Monday through Thursday) and between 10:00am and 1:00pm on Fridays.

What do I need to bring?

·        A picture ID (driver’s license, ECC ID, high school ID, etc.)

·        Your El Camino ID Number (the number you received when you filed your application to the College)

·        A pen

How long are the tests?

The tests are not timed—approximate length is 1 hour each.

What are the tests like?

Tests are taken on a computer—however, no special knowledge of computers is required.

Is there a fee for the tests?

No, assessment testing is free.

When do I get the results?

The same day.

Can I repeat the tests?

Yes, you may repeat them a second time if you have not enrolled into any English (Reading or Writing) or Math course sequences.  For example, you may repeat the reading portion of the English test if you have not enrolled into (or completed) any reading course(s) at El Camino College.  The same applies to Math—once you have begun the math sequence at El Camino College, you may not skip courses by re-testing.
