EARLY START PROGRAM (ESP)
OPENING THE DOOR TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Since 1992, Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS), under the division of Counseling and Student Services at El Camino College has been dedicated to youth development, academic success and providing awareness of college possibilities to students in the K-12 system. The Early Start Program (ESP) is an early outreach effort of the Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS).
The goal of the Early Start Program (ESP) is to promote leadership and student success among high school students, as well, as encourage the pursuit of their dreams, career choice, and a college or vocational education beyond high school.
The Early Start Program (ESP) experience begins with a two weeks Summer Leadership Intensive. During the summer students are exposed to leadership development, career exploration and higher education awareness opportunities. In the fall and spring semesters students are invited to participate in our Saturday Leadership Academy. These enrichment activities are designed to enhance the retention of students through high school and to facilitate college or vocational enrollment after high school completion.
Students of the Early Start Program (ESP) have an opportunity to:
- Strengthen, cultivate and develop leadership, writing and computer skills.
- Learn essential life and student success strategies.
- Develop new friendships, connections and networks.
- Explore career paths and college and/or vocational options.
