GET THE 411 ON PROCESSING 

The most important things every financial aid student must know.

  1. Review all of the comments on your Student Aid Report (SAR)  and make corrections immediately online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  2. Submit all paperwork requested by the Financial Aid Office under MyECC and MyDocuments.
  3. Your legal name is matched against your ECC Admission application and FAFSA application and they must be the same to process financial aid..  
  4. Verify that you have an updated address with the Admissions & Records Office. The Financial Aid Office cannot update  your address for you. 
  5. Complete the Placement Tests in the Assessment Center only if you have a high school diploma, a general equivalency diploma (GED) or a California Post-Secondary Certificate (CPE). Please come to the Financial Aid Office for an Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) Testing Referral if you do not have a high school diploma, GED or CPE certificate. The Financial Aid Office must refer students that failed the CAHSEE.
  6. New students save time and money if they attend a  Financial Aid Orientation. 
  7. Financial aid payments are not made to you unless you are enrolled in a degree (AS/AS/Transfer/Certificate) program.
  8. Review both the financial aid satisfactory academic progress policies and ECC academic policies
  9. Understand the college withdrawal policies and the financial aid withdrawal policies. Do not rely on others to withdraw you from classes.
  10. Allow the Financial Aid Office time to process your file especially if you applied after March.
  11. Access your Financial Aid Award Letter online at MyECC and know your financial aid deadlines.
  12. Pay your 0.50 cent student representation fee at the Cashier's Office.
  13. Courtesy Excel worksheets and FREE Calculators are available to estimate your college costs. 
  14. The Financial Aid Office has a step-by-step process to search for scholarships.
  15. El Camino College has an online database for students to apply for El Camino College scholarships.
