WELCOME TO THE FEDERAL DIRECT LOAN PROGRAMS

 

Steps to Apply for a Federal Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loan

Step 1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Step 2. Meet satisfactory academic progress standards and maintain at least six units of coursework at all times.
Step 3. Know the campus deadlines for turning in all financial aid and loan paperwork.
Step 4. Turn in all required documents. Missing documents are linked in an email sent to your ECC e-mail account.
Step 5. Receive a Financial Aid Award Letter. You can check your status at MyECC. Click on the financial aid tab and then MyAward Letter.
Step 6. Pick up the 2011-2012 Loan Packet at the Financial Aid Office. Complete and return all loan forms, in person, to your campus Financial Aid Office.
Step 7. Complete the mandatory Entrance Counseling session online (including repeat borrowers).
Step 8. Complete the Master Promissory Note online.
Step 9. Checks will be mailed to you after verifying your eligibility for disbursement. It is your responsibility to have a current and complete address on file with the Admissions Office. You may update your address through MyECC.

 

 

Additional Information:

Nursing Students

- In accordance with federal loan regulations, all loan checks for Nursing students will be disbursed when the second module begins (i.e., mid-semester).

Loan Management Sessions

- Due to the large number of El Camino College borrowers that fail to repay their student loans, a Loan Management Session is required prior to receiving the second disbursement. Please note: second disbursement checks will not be disbursed until this requirement is met.
