GOVERNOR'S SCHOLARSHARE PROGRAM
The Governors Scholarship Programs include the two awards listed below:
The Governor's Scholars Award provides $1,000 scholarships to students who demonstrated high academic achievement on certain exams in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grades as reported by the testing services that administered the exams each spring. Students can receive only one award each year in the 9th, 10th or 11th grades. Students earning qualifying exam scores may have received up to three different Award Notification Letters for the Governor's Scholars Award (one each for exams taken in 9th, 10th and 11th grade). It is best to claim the earliest award first.
Each year, the State of California provided schools with Award Notification Letters for distribution to students who scored in the top five percent of the State's public high school students in their grade level or top ten percent of students in their grade level at their public, junior high or comprehensive high school. The Award Notification Letter included a Qualifying Score Notice with detailed information necessary for the student to claim the award using this web site, or by completing a Governor's Scholars Award Claim Form.
The Governor's Distinguished Mathematics and Science Scholars Award ("Governor's Math and Science Award") ") provides a one-time $2,500 scholarship for public high school students who, in addition to receiving the Governor's Scholars Award, attained required scores before December 31, 2002 on authorized:
-
Advanced Placement (AP) exams,
-
International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, or
-
Golden State Exams (GSE). (Note: GSE scores must have been earned prior to December 31, 2001.)
IMPORTANT!State law changed the eligibility criteria for this scholarship on January 1, 2002. Required scores can be attained on authorized Golden State Exams (GSE), in some specific cases. GSE scores must be earned before December 31, 2001. Review Eligibility Criteria for specifics.
A student must first successfully claim a Governor's Scholars Award prior to claiming a Governor's Math and Science Award. Students are responsible for reviewing and comparing their individual test scores (AP, IB, or GSE) to the required scores listed in the Eligibility Criteria and must have achieved both the required math AND science scores prior to claiming a Governor's Math and Science Award.
