First Year Experience Program

What are Learning Communities?

In Learning Communities, the subject matter of two or more classes is integrated. The classes may be designed around a unifying theme to reinforce the students' learning. Students and faculty learn from each other and build a sense of community.

In a learning community, students engage with the same group of students for more than one class period. This facilitates friendships because students support each other through the curriculum. Faculty also spend more time with students and emphasize goals for academic success.

How to register to an FYE Learning Community.

Complete El Camino College application.
Submit FYE program application.
Compete English and Math placement exams at the El Camino College Assessment and Testing Center located in Student Services Building 2nd Floor room 217, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10am-4pm. Wednesday 10am-5pm. Closed on Fridays.
