El Camino College to Present Student Dance Performances

Student dance ensembles will present a variety of performances – highlighting a diverse selection of dance styles – throughout November and December as part of the El Camino College Center for the Arts’ 50th anniversary season.

El Camino College's dance students will present the annual “Fall Advanced Dance Concert” series at 1 p.m. Nov. 29; 8 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1; and 3 p.m. Dec. 2 in the Campus Theatre. The Fall Advanced Dance Concert features the choreographic works of John Pennington from Pennington Dance Group, El Camino College dance faculty members and several original works from current ECC choreography students. All guest, faculty and student works feature the current dancers participating in the college’s dance program. Many genres of dance will be represented, including ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance, world dance, jazz and hip-hop. ECC faculty directors and choreographers include Liz Hoefner Adamis, Kanisha Bennett, Daniel Berney, Jonathan Bryant and Jessica Kondrath.

The El Camino College Dance Department will also present its annual “Choreography Showcase” this fall, highlighting the work of the college’s beginning and intermediate choreography students. Many genres will be represented in two performances: 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 6 in the ECC Campus Theatre. Students will perform ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance, jazz and hip-hop original choreography, directed by faculty members Hoefner Adamis, Bryant and Kondrath.

The final ECC Dance Department performance of the fall semester features the annual “Lo Tech, No Tech” concerts, set for 7 p.m. Dec. 10 and 11 in Marsee Auditorium. The concerts, directed by professor Berney, are the final showing from all fall dance classes at El Camino College. Choreography is created by instructors, and students in each class perform the final dances. Technical aspects are minimized to showcase dance genres, including ballet, modern dance, jazz, African dance, tap, ballroom, Latin social dance, hip-hop and beginning dance.

Tickets for all Center for the Arts performances may be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
