“Duo Piano Recital” to Feature Accomplished ECC Faculty Musicians

El Camino College faculty members Polli Chambers-Salazar and Lois Roberts will inspire with a “Duo Piano Recital” set for 5 p.m. March 31 in Marsee Auditorium.

Part of the college’s Resident Artist Series, Chambers-Salazar and Roberts will perform pieces originally conceived as ballets. Works include “La Valse” by Maurice Ravel, which is frequently performed as an orchestral work and “Romeo and Juliet” by Sergei Prokofiev, a transcription of Prokofiev’s ballet based on the venerable play by William Shakespeare.

Chambers-Salazar has been teaching in El Camino College’s Music Department for nearly 10 years and is the author of a technical guidebook for beginning and advanced pianists. Her accomplishments include performing in venues throughout the U.S. and Canada, receiving awards in competitions such as the Simon-Fiset Competition, the New Orleans International Piano Competition and the Seattle Young Artists Festival. She has also appeared on KCBS-TV, Classical KUSC radio, and has even compiled her own CD of classical works.

Roberts specializes in classical repertoire, solo, chamber and orchestral music. She entered The Juilliard School at the age of 11 after her debut at The Town Hall in New York. She studied with Josef Raieff, Albert Fuller, Guido Agosti and Konrad Wolff. In addition to her degrees from Juilliard, she was awarded the Diploma di Merito at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy.  She has played throughout the U.S. and Europe and has taught at the American Boychoir School and Westminster Choir College, both in New Jersey.

Tickets for the performance range from $10-$21 and may be purchased online at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. Marsee Auditorium is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
