Classical Guitarist Lynn McGrath to present “A Visit to Spain” at the ECC Center for the Arts
Celebrated classical guitarist Lynn McGrath will present “A Visit to Spain,” an evening of music and poetry at 8 p.m. April 27 in the Campus Theatre as part of the El Camino College Center for the Arts’ 50th anniversary season.
McGrath will perform selected movements from “Platero y Yo,” based on a popular children’s book by Nobel Prize-winning Spanish poet Juan Ramón Jiménez. For this performance, McGrath will take on the role of both theatrical narrator and guitarist with music by Mario Castelnuovo serving as the perfect complement to the humble, yet deeply moving poetry. The setting is Andalucía in rural Spain, and the work is in part autobiographical, with the narrator reveling in the joys of the countryside and his deep friendship with the sweet donkey, Platero. Featuring poetry in Spanish and English, evocative music and storytelling, this performance offers an unforgettable experience for all ages!
A touring soloist, chamber artist, and respected teacher, McGrath has appeared in North America, South America, Europe, and New Zealand as performer, lecturer, conductor, and an adjudicator for a number of international and national festivals. In addition to solo performances, Lynn McGrath is a member of the highly acclaimed Tantalus Quartet, and a former member of the Presti Guitar Trio.
Tickets for McGrath’s performance are $15-$21 and may be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
