ECC Center for the Arts to Present Exciting Student Performances for November

The El Camino College Center for the Arts will highlight talented student groups to start the month of November as part of its 50th anniversary season.

The El Camino College Symphony Orchestra, Chorale, and the South Bay Children’s Choir will join forces for the holiday spectacular “ECC Plays and Sings Famous Film Scores by John Williams” at 8 p.m. Nov. 3 in Marsee Auditorium.

The ECC Symphony Orchestra is directed by Dane Teter, Joanna Nachef directs the ECC Chorale, and the South Bay Children’s Choir is led by Diane Simons. The program will celebrate the movie score classics of famed composer John Williams, including music from “Amistad,” “Empire of the Sun,” “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace,” “Home Alone,” “Saving Private Ryan,” and more.

The El Camino College Symphony Orchestra is an audition orchestra for students who play at an intermediate level or higher. The ECC Chorale, the college’s premier choral group, gives students the opportunity to sing all styles of choral literature. The South Bay Children's Choir is an auditioned group of more than 100 talented young singers ages 6 to 18.

A Speaker’s Forum is also scheduled for November, featuring the 2018 El Camino College national champion speech and debate team, with a demonstration of their award-winning skills. The team will present an exciting mix of impromptu speaking, extemporaneous speaking, persuasive speaking, and oral interpretation of literature, as well as an impromptu debate, where the audience chooses the topic.

A perennial powerhouse, ECC debate team members consistently perform well at local and national circuit tournaments; many have been offered scholarships to some of the most competitive debate colleges and universities in the nation. The Speaker’s Forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 8 in Marsee Auditorium.

Tickets for all Center for the Arts performances may be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
