El Camino College Center for the Arts to Present March Performances

A variety of performances will be presented through the El Camino College Center for the Arts throughout March, from dance to musical offerings.

The South Bay Children’s Choir will join soprano Jessie Tisdale and tenor Craig Benson to present “An Afternoon of Light Classics” at 4 p.m. March 8 in Haag Recital Hall. Back by popular demand, the South Bay Children’s Choir will sing traditional music, featuring charming solo and choral masterworks in a well-rounded program that audiences are sure to enjoy. The South Bay Children's Choir is an auditioned group of more than 100 talented young singers ages 6 to 18. Co-founded in 1996 by Artistic Director Diane Simons and the late Dr. Jane Hardester, the choir is known for its beautiful tone and expressive singing. March performances continue with “Song Board,” led by the versatile and talented Jessica Fichot at 8 p.m. March 13 in Marsee Auditorium. Fichot is a Los Angeles-based chanteuse, songwriter and accordionist who draws from her multiethnic upbringing to fuse music styles and languages. Raised with French, Chinese and American influences, Fichot takes audiences on a twisting journey out of the French chanson tradition, into the lands of gypsy jazz, 1940s Chinese swing, international folk, and into the wilderness of her imagination. Accompanied by her accordion, toy piano, and fiery band (clarinet, guitar, drums and upright bass), with vocals in French, Mandarin, Spanish and English, Jessica’s live performance is a dazzling journey not to be missed. Tickets are $10-$26 and may be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.

2°B Dance Company will perform “Call Me ‘Ella” at 8 p.m. March 21 in Marsee Auditorium. Led by artistic directors Jonathan Bryant and Hyosun Choi, “Call Me ‘Ella” is an evening of noir and fantasy explored through exciting, physical, and, at times, humorous dance theater. In this performance, two worlds collide when a no-nonsense private investigator is hired to find a missing person after the Enchanted Empire’s annual Masquerade Ball. With a glass slipper as his only clue, what surprises will he uncover? Tickets are $10-$22 and may be purchased at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.

“Polonaise-Fantaisie: The Story of a Pianist” completes the March events, presented by Inna Faliks at 5 p.m. March 29 in Marsee Auditorium. The performance is a hybridization of a piano recital and an autobiographical monologue, and Faliks considers the work the most personal project she has ever done. Through this presentation, she hopes audiences can catch a glimpse into the life of a performing musician, as well as learn about her own very personal story. This is a story of immigration, of growing up a musician, and of love, told by the artist herself between performances of a varied program, which includes pieces by Rodion Shchedrin and Jan Freidlin, as well as Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and Chopin.
