El Camino College Students and Faculty to Present Entertaining Lineup of Performances throughout March

El Camino College students and faculty will present concerts, a Tony Award-winning musical, and a debate throughout March 2019 – all part of the ECC Center for the Arts’ 50th anniversary season.

The ECC Symphony Orchestra will perform its spring concert at 8 p.m. March 9 in Marsee Auditorium. The performance is directed by Dane Teter and will include works from Mozart, Rossini, and Elgar. In addition, faculty members will perform, including baritone Kevin Blickfedlt, and Polli Chambers-Salazar and Lois Roberts on piano. The El Camino College Symphony Orchestra is an audition orchestra for students who play at an intermediate level or higher. The group performs works for string and full orchestras, as well as solo and choral accompanying pieces. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The vibrant New York community of Washington Heights will come to life through the El Camino College Theatre Department’s production of “In the Heights,” set for 8 p.m. March 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30; 3 p.m. March 17, 24 and 31 in the ECC Campus Theatre. The 2008 Tony Award winner for best musical features music and lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda, who created the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” several years later. It’s students vs. teachers in a lively debate planned for 7 p.m. March 19 in Marsee Auditorium. Can one achieve a fulfilling and happy life through attaining a college diploma? El Camino College's Communication Studies faculty members Diana Crossman and Joseph Evans will debate this issue with students Damon Lawson and Raquel Tahvildari in a panel format. The ECC debate team is a perennial powerhouse looking forward to another successful spring season! El Camino College faculty members Polli Chambers-Salazar and Lois Roberts will perform a “Duo Piano Recital” set for 5 p.m. March 30 in Marsee Auditorium. Part of the college’s Resident Artist Series, Chambers-Salazar and Roberts will perform pieces such as “Danse Macabre” by Camille Saint-Saëns; “Cinderella” by Sergei Prokofiev and new works by ECC faculty member and composer-in-residence Patrick Schulz.
