El Camino College Studio Jazz Band to Perform

The El Camino College Studio Jazz Band will present its fall show at 8 p.m. Nov. 27 in Haag Recital Hall. The performance will include swing, jazz, and great big-band music in the style of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Oliver Nelson, Woody Herman and Gil Evans. The group is directed by David Sills.

A South Bay native, Sills has released 10 critically acclaimed albums and can also be heard as a sideman on many recordings, including ECC alumnus David Benoit’s album “Conversation,” as a featured soloist. He has a bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance from California State University, Long Beach and a master’s degree in jazz studies from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

The El Camino College Studio Jazz Band is a dynamic ensemble dedicated to the performance and preservation of classic, straight-ahead jazz big-band music. Band members are a mix of aspiring young students and seasoned veterans who blend together to create beautiful subtle moods, creative solos and exciting ensemble passages.
