El Camino College Theatre Department to Present “The House of Blue Leaves”
Discover the dark side of the search for fame in the El Camino College Theatre Department production of “The House of Blue Leaves” in the Campus Theatre. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. May 11, 12, 18, 19 and 3 p.m. May 20.
This award-winning tragicomedy about celebrity obsession and the need to be famous was written by John Guare and set in Sunnyside, Queens in 1965, on the day Pope Paul VI visited New York City. A terrible songwriter, his wife, his girlfriend, his AWOL son, his long-lost celebrity friend, and three pushy nuns all come together during the Pope’s visit, hoping for a blessing from above, or maybe even from Hollywood.
The El Camino College production is directed by Jerry Prell, an accomplished director, actor and professor. Directing credits include “Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?,” “The Laramie Project,” “Lysistrata” and “The Boys from Syracuse.” He has acted in feature films, television and on stage in New York, Los Angeles, regionally and in Europe.
Tickets for the performance range from $10-$15 and may be purchased online at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. The Campus Theatre is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
