El Camino College Theatre Department to Present “In the Heights”
The vibrant New York community of Washington Heights will come to life through contemporary music and dance this March in El Camino College’s Campus Theatre.
The celebrated musical “In the Heights” features high-energy hip-hop dancing, a dynamic score, and music and lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda, who created the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” several years later. “In the Heights” made a huge splash on Broadway, claiming the 2008 Tony Award for best musical and winning over audiences with its fresh-faced charm and vibrant music.
Performances are set for 8 p.m. March 15, 16, 22, 23, 29, and 30; 3 p.m. March 17, 24 and 31.
The ECC Theatre Department production is led by director Bill Georges and choreographer Liz Hoefner Adamis.
“In the Heights” tells the story of a lively community where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music.
