El Camino College to Present “Faculty Favorites”
El Camino College’s dynamic vocal performance faculty will come together for a recital at 8 p.m. March 9 in Marsee Auditorium.
“Faculty Favorites” is an evening of eclectic operatic favorites, art song gems and Broadway tunes, featuring Lyric Opera of Chicago alumna Erin Wood and “Phantom of the Opera” favorite Rhonda Dillon. Pianist Kenner Bailey will accompany the faculty members in this event that features works by Vivaldi, Liszt, Chopin and Puccini. The evening promises to bring vocal brilliance, stunning expertise and incredible artistry to Marsee Auditorium!
Wood is an acclaimed soprano who has performed across the country, with reviewers praising her "volcanic outpouring of sound." She recently represented the United States as one of two Americans chosen to participate in the Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition for Wagnerian singers in Aalborg, Denmark. Wood is an alumna of UCLA. Dillon’s operatic performances, ranging from Puccini heroines to Mozart's Donna Anna, have taken her to venues throughout North America and Europe. Additionally, her voice may be heard on the film scores of “Empire of the Sun,” “Burglar” and “Like Father, Like Son.” Dillion earned a bachelor’s degree in voice and a master’s degree in choral conducting from USC.
Bailey has worked within a wide range of genres throughout his varied musical career. His creative ventures have included performing everything from classical and Broadway to most forms of commercial music. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Truman State University and master’s degree in piano from USC.
Tickets for the performance range from $10-$21 and may be purchased online at www.centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. Marsee Auditorium is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
