El Camino College to Present "Poetry and Passion"

Lindsay Deutsch & Friends will perform chamber music, jazz tangos

American violinist Lindsay Deutsch will lead a performance of sultry jazz tangos at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 in Marsee Auditorium.

Deutsch will perform with a small, conductorless chamber orchestra, covering the work of popular Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla in her ECC performance “Poetry and Passion.” The works combine infectious rhythms of the tango with high-octane performances of powerhouse artists, creating a thrilling, roof-raising musical journey.

Frequently appearing as a guest soloist with American and Canadian symphonies, Deutsch most recently performed in Colorado, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Illinois and Los Angeles. She has been called “one of the most interesting, imaginative and downright thrilling young violinists in America today” by Jeffrey Kahane, music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.

Deutsch’s performance of Piazzolla’s “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires” with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra was selected for NPR’s SymphonyCast program, and she played a solo violin soundtrack for the film “The Good Shepherd” starring Robert De Niro.

Tickets for the performance range from $10-$26 and may be purchased online at centerforthearts.org using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. Marsee Auditorium is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
