El Camino College to Present Student Choral Performances
A variety of choral literature will be presented by student ensembles in December as part of the El Camino College Center for the Arts’ 50th anniversary season.
The El Camino College Concert Choir, Mixed Chorus and Chorale will join together to present “Holiday Choral Extravaganza” at 8 p.m. Dec. 1 in Marsee Auditorium. In this special collaboration, the ECC Choral Department invites the audience to ring in the holiday season with sounds of celebration in song. The first half will begin with a major work and the second half will feature each choral group performing favorite holiday music. “Holiday Choral Extravaganza” is directed by professor Joanna Medawar Nachef, ECC’s director of choral activities. Tickets are $10.
The college’s annual “Messiah Sing-Along” concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Campus Theatre. This free event is open to the public and will feature an orchestra and several professional soloists, with members of the audience encouraged to raise their voices and sing with the melodies and harmonies, or just sit back and enjoy the concert. This singalong has become a beloved annual ECC tradition for more than 50 years, featuring the music of George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah” masterpiece, composed in just 24 days. Participants can bring their own score or pick one up at the door. The “Messiah Sing-Along” packs the house every year and is directed by professor Nachef.
The celebrated El Camino College Chorale will present a night of choral music featuring selections from the group’s fall concert tour and holiday favorites at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Campus Theatre. The Chorale, ECC’s small, 30-voice premier chamber chorale ensemble, performs choral literature of all styles. Directed by professor Nachef, the performance will include music by Eric Whitacre, Sergei Rachmaninoff, John Williams, Moses Hogan, and more! Tickets are $10.

The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. El Camino College is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
