New West Guitar Group to Perform Covers, Jazz Standards and Original Works

Celebrated guitar ensemble New West Guitar Group will perform at 8 p.m. May 4 in Marsee Auditorium. Founded a decade ago, the trio includes guitarists Perry Smith, John Storie and Will Brahm, who perform covers, jazz standards and original works throughout the United States and abroad. The group’s signature sound comes from a style that highlights rhythm, beauty and virtuosity through electric and acoustic guitar work.

The New West Guitar Group’s most recent project, “Live at Mauch Chunk Opera House,” was released in 2017. The trio recorded and filmed a concert in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania at its legendary opera house built in the 1800s. Each selection showcases the unique chemistry the three guitarists have developed over years of performing together.

Praised as “sharp and refined” by the Seattle Times, the group has released seven full-length albums since 2005. Each project features their unique style of laid-back virtuosity through expert arrangements crafted by the members of the group. Their music is regularly featured on NPR and jazz radio stations, while their repertoire is performed throughout the country by college and high school guitar programs. Graduates of the USC Thornton School of Music, the New West Guitar Group's versatility as players and composers has given them a reputation as pioneers in the realm of guitar ensemble.

Tickets for the performance range from $10-$26 and may be purchased online at using the online ticketing system or by phone at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. Marsee Auditorium is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
