Warrior Smart Start

Warrior Smart Start is an opportunity for new students starting Fall 2020 and their families to virtually connect to campus resources and student support programs offered by El Camino College. Various sessions will be offered at the same time. After you sign up, you will receive a confirmation email with the zoom links to each session. Students can attend sessions to prepare them for their first semester, join a support program, learn transfer strategies, and more. 

 

 

SCHEDULE FOR THE DAY 

This session will provide an overview of the day. In addition, we will be hosting a student panel with current students transfering to 4-year schools. 

BSS/SEA Pathway
The BSS/SEA Pathway is designed to facilitate the academic and college success of Southbay Promise Students by integrating Behavioral and Social Science curriculum, student equity and student services in courses that are designated myPATH. The myPATH designation means that faculty teaching these courses have received equity-minded and culturally responsive training through the Student Equity and Achievement Program.

Dual Enrollment
This workshop will teach current high school students and parents how they can successfully enroll in courses at El Camino College while still enrolled in high school for free.

Financial Aid 101
This workshop will address why it is important to apply for financial aid and how students can remain in good standing.

First Year Expereince
The First Year Experience Program is designed to prepare you for academic success and to help you in selecting the career path that's right for you. This program is designed for students that are entering El Camino College directly from High School.

Project Success
Project Success is a learning community looking to enhance the cultural and educational experiences of African-American and other students.

South Bay Promise
The South Bay Promise offers an affordable pathway directly from high school to college. Enrollment fees for the first and second year will be paid for full-time students and additional services and counseling will be offered to students enrolled in the South Bay Promise.

Transfer Strategies
This workshop will address the many transfer opportunities that students have when they enroll at El Camino College. It’s never too early to start thinking about the future.

Warrior-Toro Computer Science Pathway Program
Warrior-Toro CS Pathway is a support program in partnership with Cal State Dominguez Hills that provides a pathway to complete a Computer Science B.S. degree.


Warrior Jobs
Warrior Jobs is a new, collaborative effort between El Camino and Jobspeaker that makes it easy for El Camino students to find jobs and network with local employers, both big and small. Using Jobspeaker's job board, our students can easily sign in with their ECC login information to create an account and immediately start looking for a job in their local area. 

 

Athletics
This session will discuss how to join a competitive intercollegiate team at El Camino College.

Career Center
The mission of El Camino College Career Center is to offer quality comprehensive career counseling and services to all students. The Career Center faculty and staff aims to encourage and inspire students to achieve career and life goals by exploring their values, interests, personality traits, aptitudes and skills.

Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS)
Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) at El Camino College is dedicated to the delivery of a comprehensive program that encourages the enrollment, retention, and transfer of students who are challenged by language, social, economic, and educational disadvantages.

Honors Transfer Program (HTP)
The Honors Transfer Program (HTP) at El Camino College is designed to better prepare the highly motivated student to transfer successfully to a university and complete a Bachelor’s degree. The HTP provides a unique learning environment that stresses academic excellence and develops the awareness necessary to achieve this goal.

International Students Program
El Camino College is home to over 500 international students representing almost 60 different countries. We strive to create an open environment for all students to complete their educational dream of studying in the United States. ECC is a leading transfer institution to UC and CSU schools.

Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement Program (MESA)
MESA provides support to community college students who are majoring in math or science so they excel academically and transfer to four-year institutions. MESA is based on a rigorous academic program that uses various components to support students pursuing math and science based degrees. Program components build an academically based peer community to provide student support and motivation.

Scholarship Office
More than 550 scholarships totaling over $600,000 are awarded annually to incoming high school students, students attending El Camino College and students transferring to the four-year university of their dreams. Many of these scholarships fully cover the cost of tuition, textbooks and fees.

Special Resource Center
The purpose of this program is to assist students with disabilities to perform on an equal basis with non-disabled students in an integrated campus setting.

Veterans Resource Center 
The Veterans Services Office provides assistance to veterans and eligible dependents in planning educational programs and maintaining compliance with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regulations. It is important that VA beneficiaries notify the Veterans Services Program of any changes in enrollment. 

Warrior Closet & Pantry
The Warrior Pantry offers a drive-thru distribution with a pre-packaged bag filled with various food items for our students to pick up. This is our new, "Drive-Through Grab-A-Bag", policy that will allow us to keep the Warrior Pantry open and serve our students during this difficult time. In addition, the Warrior Closet offers free clothes to enrolled students. The Warrior Closet host pop up shops throughout the school year. 

 

AB 540 / Undocumented Students
Learn about the AB 540 state law and resources for students who identify as Dreamers.

Decoding the Financial Aid Award Letter 
This session will review how to access and read your financial aid award letter, your bank mobile account, and financial aid disbursments.

Guardian Scholars (Current and Former Foster Youth)
The Guardian Scholars Program creates a welcoming and supportive environment for current and former foster youth. Our goal is to empower you to reach your full potential and achieve your academic, personal, and career goals. Guardian Scholars promotes self-advocacy by establishing meaningful connections and a support network within the El Camino College campus community.

How to Get Involved
This sessions will teach you how to get involved on campus with various student clubs, organizations, and other leadership opportuntiies.

LGBTQIA+ Safe Zone Project
The LGBTQIA+ community Safe Zone Project Community provides opportunities for connection and engagement among students, staff and faculty, and community partners.

Navigating MyECC
This sessions will show you how to navigate your student portal. 

Student Health Center
Come learn about the FREE Virtual Workshops offered by our El Camino Psychologists, how to sign-up for Telemental Health Psychotherapy Sessions and Nurse Practitioner Consultations, and ask questions directly with the Coordinator of Student Health Services. Come find out what your Student Health Fee covers, and what the Summer and Fall will look like in regards to Student Health Services offerings!

Using the Library & Learning Resources for College Success
The mission of the Library and Learning Resources Division is to empower every student, and the ECC Community, with the knowledge, tools and life skills necessary to ensure success - through academic guidance, compassion, and encouragement.
