CPR/AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) Training
To further ensure the health and safety of faculty, staff, and students, ECC has lifesaving Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) devices strategically placed throughout the campus. Training is available in CPR and AED use in an upcoming session: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. February 10 in the PE Building South, Room 209. This class is for both first-time attendees as well as those who need recertification. Four hours of flex credit are available upon completion of this important training.
Please note that building captains and/or employees assigned the responsibility of performing daily checks on an AED Unit should register to attend this class. According to American Red Cross, anyone who has not completed and passed a CPR/AED training class cannot perform daily checks on the AED units, and should not use an AED unit on someone in need.
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) claims the lives of close to 450,000 Americans each year. Immediate defibrillation and medical attention is key to these patients’ survival rate. For anyone who has dialed 911 to request help in a medical emergency, it may have seemed like an eternity until help arrived. Yet, at El Camino College, the estimated average length of time – from receipt of call until paramedics in an advanced support ambulance arrive – is only five minutes. By placing AEDs out in our campus community, it is hoped that this “downtime” from call to electrical shock can be reduced, thus improving the chances of survival for the patient.
We are asking that you join the El Camino College Police Department and Heath Science and Athletic Division in our efforts to continue offering the “gift of life” by attending valuable life-saving CPR/AED training and becoming familiar with our AED Program.
