ECC Foundation's Andrea Sala to be Honored
Congratulations to El Camino College Foundation Executive Director Andrea Sala, who received the 2018 Community Catalyst Award at the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Women's Leadership Luncheon on April 4. The annual event celebrated female leadership in the business community, while also honoring four women who have positively influenced the local economy and business climate. The Community Catalyst Award recognizes Andrea's ties to the South Bay, the partnerships she has created among organizations, and her dedicated service and support of nonprofit organizations, particularly the education community.
Andrea became ECC's Foundation executive director in January 2015, bringing nearly 20 years of fundraising, marketing and event planning to her position. She previously served as executive director of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Education Foundation, where she managed the day-to-day operations of the multimillion-dollar nonprofit organization. Andrea has a bachelor's degree in journalism from California State University, Long Beach and in the community, she is involved with the Peninsula Committee for Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
In addition to Andrea, other Torrance-area women honored at the event include: Leslie Cortez, City of Torrance, Athena Award; Mary Kingston, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance/San Pedro, Inspirational Leader Award; and Claudine Garcia, The Promotions Dept., South Bay Spirit Award. The keynote speaker was Chief Eve Irvine of the Torrance Police Department, the first female police chief in the department's history.
