2015 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award

Congratulations to Kim Nguyen, psychology instructor, for being honored with the 2015 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award. The annual award recognizes instructional excellence, a commitment to student learning, and dedication to the El Camino College mission. Nominated by colleague Dustin Black, Kim was commended for her tireless efforts to “address each student’s needs on an individualized basis, spending as much time as necessary to reinforce a difficult course concept or drive home a word of encouragement.”

In her stellar evaluations, students and colleagues applauded Kim’s ability to create a challenging and engaging learning environment and to effectively design learning materials that accommodate a variety of learning styles. Kim’s commitment to excellence is evidenced by her students’ capstone projects, which meet standards for publication in a psychological research journal. Formerly an adviser for El Camino College’s Salsa Club, Kim now serves as co-adviser for the Psychology Club. As coordinator for the biannual Psychology Student Symposium, Kim not only plans, organizes and hosts the event; she also mentors each participant’s professional growth. Kim was described by her senior colleague, Richard Mascolo, as “more than outstanding; she is invaluable.”
