Cyber Security – Be Safe from Phishing!

Cybercrimes such as "phishing" are on the rise. Phishing is a cybercrime in which a target or targets are contacted by email, telephone (social engineering) or text message (smishing) by someone posing as a legitimate business or institution in an attempt to lure individuals into providing sensitive data such as personally identifiable information, banking and credit card details, and passwords. The information is then used to access important accounts and can result in identity theft and financial loss. The ECC cybersecurity presentation, "Phishing Attacks – How to Prevent Them from Being Successful" is a great resource to learn more about how to protect yourself from this increasingly common crime: http://www.elcamino.edu/about/depts/its/techservices/infosec.aspx Everyone is invited to contact Paul Yoder, information systems security specialist, with all cybersecurity questions: [email protected].
