ECC geology students volunteered at the recent South Bay Mineral and Gem Show in Torrance. About 15 students helped out at the annual event, sponsored by the South Bay Lapidary and Mineral Society (SBLMS). The SBLMS generously provides funding for ECC's Wally Ford Scholarships, three of which are given to geology majors every year. In addition to their volunteer duties, students had the opportunity to gain practical experience in the earth science field and to meet experts in mineral and rock collecting. The ECC geology major program is one of the largest among the California Community Colleges.
