Spring Health Fair

Spring Health Fair

All El Camino College students are invited to attend the second annual Spring Health Fair, scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 2 on the Library Lawn. Students will have access to health and safety organizations who provide resources in the community. There will be free health screenings and giveaways.

Presented by ECC Student Health Services, more than 20 organizations will be on campus to share information about mental health and general health resources available to students.

Organizations such as the L.A. County Department of Public Health, Behavioral Health Services, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) South Bay, Peace Over Violence, L.A. County Department of Mental Health, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), YWCA South Bay Empowerment Center, South Bay LGBTQ Center, The LGBTQ Center of Long Beach, the American Cancer Society, Providence Health & Services, and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) will be on campus. Information about student insurance, dental insurance and low-cost dental care will also be available.

In addition, Bienestar Human Services will offer rapid HIV testing in a mobile unit and the Veterans Affairs' mobile unit will provide information about veterans' health benefits and enrollment.

Students can also enroll in CalFresh and Medi-Cal on-site with assistance from the L.A. County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). CalFresh, known federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, provides monthly food benefits to low-income individuals and families. Medi-Cal is a program that offers free or low-cost health coverage for children and adults with limited income and resources. Students can ask questions about eligibility for these programs and others offered by DPSS.

Several ECC departments, such as Veterans Services, Financial Aid, and the Warrior Pantry, will also be on hand to provide information and answer questions. The ECC Respiratory Care Department will offer breathing tests and the Nursing Department will offer blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. The El Camino College Police Department invites students to enjoy "Coffee with a Cop," a chance to interact with members of campus police. ECC Police will also supervise a cart challenge where students will experience a simulated impaired driving situation.
