Movies for Mental Health
Students and ECC employees are invited to attend a free "Movies for Mental Health" workshop at 2:30 p.m. May 21 in the Campus Theatre. Sponsored by Student Health Services and in collaboration with Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the organization Art With Impact, this interactive workshop uses the emotional power of short film to initiate dialogue with students on the topic of mental health. Art With Impact is a nonprofit group that uses the power of film to reduce stigma around mental illness and raise awareness about mental health issues. They have run over 200 successful workshops at universities and colleges throughout the U.S. and Canada over the past five years that students have described as eye opening, powerful, fantastic, enlightening, and worth going to. The workshop runs for two hours and includes an interactive discussion, viewing and responding to several winning short films, and a panel of speakers representing mental health resources. Refreshments will be served.
