Geology Program: Central Coast Field Trip
ECC geology students took a fall field trip to the Central Coast this month! Students in the college's Geology 36 class spent four days in the Morro Bay/Big Sur area studying the tectonics, metamorphic rocks, and geomorphology of the central California coast. For many students, it was the first time they had ever traveled outside of the Los Angeles metro area, so it was a life-changing experience. The program offers four field geology classes (one each semester) to the Central California Coast, Death Valley, Anza Borrego, and Owens Valley areas to study different geological concepts found in each area. ECC's geology major program is one of the largest community college programs in the state. Geology major workshops are offered several times each semester, covering topics such as internships and transfer. Faculty and staff can also join the adventures! The program is always looking for faculty and/or staff members to chaperone on one of camping trips to these amazing places! Contact professor Joe Holliday for more information: [email protected].
