Assemblymember Autumn Burke and Propel L.A. representatives recently visited El Camino College on Feb. 1 for a meeting that showcased short-term workforce training opportunities. Participants heard from Assemblywoman Burke, as well as presentations from the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB) and El Camino College, followed by a machine tool demonstration and tour of the ECC campus. Ten nonprofit groups from the South Bay-Greater L.A. region joined two business partners, and potential students/clients at the event to learn about Propel L.A.'s free eight-week Short-Term Workforce Training Program at ECC and the life-changing opportunities offered at El Camino College that can help people access high-wage jobs and career pathways. The program is specifically designed for people who are underemployed, disconnected youth age 18-24, those who are formerly incarcerated, and anyone not already participating in a government-funded workforce program. Training is geared to meet the needs of South Bay and South Los Angeles industries such as aerospace and advanced manufacturing. Classes in machine tool technology, and automotive collision, repair and painting are available. The next class session begins February 11.
