ACCJC Reaffirms ECC Accreditation

Earlier this month, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) reaffirmed El Camino College's accreditation for seven years. Collegewide efforts to provide excellent professional development to faculty, classified professionals, administrators, and student leaders were praised by commission members, who also noted that these programs lead to leadership and innovation.

The Program Review Process, Planning Process, Online Student Support, Fiscal Stability, and Student Engagement and Leadership Governance are additional areas where El Camino excels, as noted in the Action Letter and Peer Review Team Report. Peer review team members also acknowledged that the college's Institutional Self Evaluation Report is a comprehensive and well-written document detailing the processes we use to address Eligibility Requirements, Commission Standards, and Commission Policies. Three areas of improvement are also observed in the report, including cultivating a consistent approach to the analysis and use of disaggregated data, ensuring consistent regular and substantive interaction in distance education courses, and enhancing the regular assessment of Board Policies. The next report from the college will be the Midterm Report due on October 15, 2024. El Camino's next comprehensive review will occur in fall 2027.

Thanks go to the dedicated accreditation team: Co-Chairs Ms. Claudia Striepe and Dr. Christina Gold, as well as the members of the Accreditation Steering Committee and Accreditation Liaison Officer Dr. Jean Shankweiler. This important achievement is the result of significant work by all members of the campus community. Congratulations to all!
