El Camino College is pleased to welcome Francisco X. Rivera as the 2020 commencement speaker. The El Camino alumnus will address the Class of 2020 at the 73rd Annual Commencement Ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, June 12 in Murdock Stadium.
A soccer commentator and reporter for FOX Sports, Rivera joined the network's soccer coverage as a sideline reporter for the 2013 Gold Cup. That same year he became the first Mexican-born broadcaster on the FOX Broadcast Network. Since then he has served as a contributor for high-profile Mexico national team matches.
Rivera has also worked with FOX Deportes for 13 years, primarily as a play-by-play announcer and reporter for Major League Baseball games across the United States. In 2012, Rivera became the youngest broadcaster to call a World Series game on Spanish television in the United States. He has also served as a host and analyst for FOX NFL coverage, including Super Bowl XLVIII. In 2018, Rivera was introduced as the new Spanish voice of the Los Angeles Kings on ESPN Deportes Radio. During the 2019-20 season, he was added as a consultant to lead the team's Hispanic community outreach initiatives and called the Kings TV game in Spanish on Dia de Los Muertos for FOX Sports West.
Rivera has also served as KWKW's pre, half and postgame host on its Los Angeles Rams gameday coverage since 2016. He is the host of the weekly in-season radio show "Hablando de Los Angeles Rams" and has occasionally filled in as in-game commentator.
In another milestone, Rivera made history as the first Spanish radio analyst of the MLS expansion franchise Los Angeles Football Club during its inaugural 2018 season. He has also served as a guest analyst and sideline reporter on the club's YouTube TV programming.
Rivera has been Estrella TV's lead sports anchor since 2016, hosting all their Los Angeles coverage on KRCA-62, as well as special events on the network level. From 2015 to 2017, he was the voice of "Boxeo Estelar," featuring top bouts from Golden Boy Boxing. Rivera joined the Time Warner Cable Deportes broadcast team in 2013 as the studio host of Los Angeles Sparks game coverage, as well as other shows within the network. He made his debut as the Los Angeles Clippers' Spanish TV analyst during the 2011–2012 NBA season on games broadcast on Time Warner Cable. He performed the same role for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2010–2011 season.
After El Camino, Rivera completed his bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from California State University, Long Beach.
