Our Facilities Plan continues to make progress as new and improved resources for learning are under construction. Fencing around the perimeter of the former Student Services Center and Student Activities Center was completed during the winter recess and demolition is now underway. All parts of the campus are still accessible via pathways around this large project. We advise everyone to use caution in our construction zones, even though staff is onsite coordinating the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles in key areas. Following demolition, construction will begin on two new academic buildings: the Behavioral & Social Science Building and the Arts Complex. For more information on the progress of these projects, including travel paths, renderings of the new buildings, and FAQs, view: http://www.elcamino.edu/about/depts/facilities/demolition-project/.
In other facilities news, our Music Building project has been included in the Governor's Capital Outlay budget of 24 approved projects across the state. We still need final approval from legislators, but it is quite significant to be included at this stage. As far as our existing facilities across campus, the Governor's budget included a small allocation for deferred maintenance and instructional equipment – $17.3 million in one-time funds spread across 114 colleges. We will collaborate campuswide to make the best use of the funds we have for upcoming projects, repairs and equipment needs.
