The El Camino College community was welcomed back to campus through Spring 2020 Professional Development Day. The theme, "Harnessing the Pillars of Wellness for Personal and Student Success," focused on pursuing wellness and self-care so we are prepared to serve students, our community and others. Following the traditional pancake breakfast and remarks from President Maloney, participants heard from guest speaker Karen E. Lyons, director, Workforce Health Consulting Group, Kaiser Permanente. Lyons shared information about creating health and happiness. Faculty presenters including Kim Jones, Vianey Midgette, Joshua Escalante Troesh, Kassia Wosick, and John Yeressian shared details about pillars of wellness, including physical, psychological, financial, occupational, and social aspects. Professional Development Day participants also joined a variety of breakout sessions that covered topics such as "Bringing Mindfulness Activities into the Classroom," "The Interconnections of Work and Emotional Well-Being," "Recognizing and Working to Overcome Implicit Bias," "Culture of Care: Campus Resources for Students with Health, Safety and Behavioral Concerns," and cyber safety, among others.
Thank you to the planning team that organized and coordinated this informative Professional Development Day program. Welcome back to El Camino College!
