El Camino College's Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT) recently secured $949,480 in employment training funds for manufacturing workforce programs. The grant will be used to train more than 1,100 workers statewide, serving multiple employers.
The El Camino College CACT is one of six Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies in California that offer college-approved curriculum and workforce training. An initiative of the California Community College's Economic and Workforce Development program, the Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies are dedicated to serving California's advanced technology companies with innovative business solutions.
The El Camino College CACT grant is one of 28 contracts worth more than $13.4 million in job training funds recently approved by the state's Employment Training Panel (ETP). Contracts were awarded to renewable fuel and vehicle technology job training funds. Training proposals were comprised of both single and multiple employer contracts from various industry sectors throughout the state.
The ETP is a business and labor supported state agency that assists employers in strengthening their competitive edge in the economy by providing funds to partially offset the costs of necessary job skills training. California's ETP is a performance-based program, providing funds for trainees who successfully complete training and are retained in good-paying jobs at or above a required wage base for at least 90 days.
