Forensics Team Success

Congratulations to our forensics team for leading the national parliamentary debate standings and becoming a champion among both two- and four-year institutions. The team recently won the Sunset Cliffs Invitational at Point Loma Nazarene University, taking the Community College Sweepstakes.

Alexandra Vandenberg was named top community college debater, securing a $3,000 scholarship. El Camino also led the junior division in debate, placing three of the top four teams. Champions were first-year debaters Josiah Edwards and Michael Wagreich. Second-year competitors took awards in the competitive open division, where most competitors are from universities. Shayan Sadaat finished second and Alisson Ramos came in fourth out of 33 entrants in extemporaneous speaking, Vandenberg won fourth place in "after dinner speaking," Ben Mason was third in programmed oral interpretation, and Alejandro Perez and Josiah Edwards finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in impromptu speaking.

The team will now compete in three upcoming national championship tournaments, two in Illinois and one in New Mexico. All the best to this remarkable team as they embark on the tournament tour!
