Congratulations to First Year Experience Program faculty coordinator Cynthia Mosqueda, who was recently named Full-Time Faculty of the Year by the Faculty Association of Community Colleges (FACCC). A dedicated advocate of student access and success, Cynthia has been instrumental in creating a highly successful FYE program at El Camino College that has received accolades and recognition for exemplary program status through the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office for outstanding contributions to student success, transfer and retention. The award will be presented at the FACCC's 2018 Advocacy & Policy Conference, March 4-5 in Sacramento.
"Dr. Mosqueda's development of programs that support the success of our students is a model for community colleges across the state," said Dena P. Maloney, Ed.D., President/Superintendent, El Camino College. "This tremendous honor is a direct result of her leadership in creating programs that make a real difference in the lives of our students. We are proud that FACCC has chosen to recognize Dr. Mosqueda as the Full-Time Faculty of the Year."
An ECC alumna, Cynthia joined the staff of El Camino College as a First Year Experience/Learning Communities counselor in 2001 and was named a "Woman of Distinction" in 2005 by the ECC Women's History Month Committee. She earned a doctorate in education from UCLA, as well as a master's degree in counseling and a bachelor's degree in human services from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Cynthia served two terms as a FACCC board member and has been a facilitator for the National Great Teacher Seminar. For her work in helping first-year students transition into college life, she was named the 2014 National Advocate of the Year by the University of South Carolina's National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.
