El Camino College celebrated Pi Day on March 14, a festive event in the MESA|STEM Center that honored the famous irrational number, 3.14159… Pi represents the ratio of the circumference of any size circle with its diameter. Pi Day featured pi and pie-related activities such as a pie-baking contest, pi knowledge and trivia, and festive pi décor. Pizza pies were served as well. New this year was a "Pi Bee," a competition where contestants were challenged to recite as many digits of pi as possible by memory. Student Mary Kelley was the grand prize winner, reciting pi out to the 69th digit. Other student standouts include: Eben Cowley and Yusuke Komori, who each recited pi to the 56th digit, followed by Mmeridi Okenwa with 33 digits, and Naveene Raya, 20 digits.
