Members of the El Camino College PRIDE Leadership Program recently participated in PRIDE Session 2, titled: "Getting to Know the California Community College System." In this informative session, participants had the opportunity to learn from California Community Colleges (CCC) system leaders, college and district CEOs, and President Maloney, who presented on the topic, "Leading from Where You Are." Additional topics included the history, governance, and budget of the California Community Colleges.
At the end of the session, participants said that they gained a "better understanding of the relationship between El Camino College and the larger CCC system" and the dynamic role they can play in effecting change and innovation within the college. Others noted that the session helped "lay the framework to help visualize our roles as leaders in our current jobs, and provided motivation to "take the initiative and become a leader in my current position."
Additional session presenters included:
Dr. Jerry Buckley, Vice President of Instruction, College of the Canyons
Dr. Cheryl Marshall, Chancellor, North Orange Community College District
Dr. David Morse, Past President, Statewide Academic Senate; Professor of English, Long Beach City College
Dr. Veronica Neal, Faculty Director, Office of Student Equity, Social Justice, and Multicultural Education, De Anza College

The program uses sound practices and theory-based approaches for developing effective leaders. The PRIDE Leadership cohort will meet two more times this semester.
