Three of El Camino College's premier vocal groups recently performed in New York City's Carnegie Hall. The El Camino College Chorale, Concert Choir and Mixed Chorus performed in the renowned concert hall, with professor Joanna Medawar Nachef making her sixth guest-conducting appearance. The choirs were accompanied by a professional orchestra and soloists.
Nachef is an internationally acclaimed choral conductor who has made several Carnegie Hall appearances. She earned a doctorate in musical arts and a master's degree in choral music from USC, in addition to a bachelor's degree in piano performance from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Nachef is also on the faculty of California State University, Dominguez Hills, the founder and artistic director of the Joanna Medawar Nachef Singers, and choir director at Peninsula Community Church. In 2015, Nachef retired from her post as the artistic director for Los Cancioneros Master Chorale after 24 years and last year she retired from the California Academy of Mathematics & Science after 25 years as music director.
