Student Services Groundbreaking

Student Services Concept Rendering

El Camino College recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Student Services Center, seen here in an architectural rendering.

A recent ceremony celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Student Services Center. The May 22 ceremony marked the start of construction on this $35 million project, which will be strategically located to create a "front door" to campus along Manhattan Beach Boulevard.

All student services will be centralized in this modern, 81,000-square-foot building, making it easier for students and first-time visitors to access information and services. A new entry drive and main drop-off to the campus will be developed, along with a new surface parking lot. This comprehensive facility will replace the existing Student Services Center, built in the 1950s.

Programs housed in the new building will include; Admissions & Records, the International Student Program, Veterans Services Program, Assessment and Testing, CalWORKs/CARE/EOPS, Career Center, Transfer Center, Counseling, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, First Year Experience, Outreach and School Relations, Special Resource Center, Community Education, Foster Care & Kinship Education, and the Language Academy. Two meeting rooms and open atrium areas with seating are also part of the design.

All windows in the building will be energy efficient and will provide natural lighting throughout the building. Drought-tolerant plants will require minimal irrigation and reclaimed water will be used in landscaped areas.

The new Student Services Center is funded by the 2012 Measure E Facilities Bond.
