The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) granted initial accreditation status to Compton College during its June 7, 2017 meeting. The action establishes Compton College as an accredited college and was announced at Compton College's commencement celebration this past spring. At the California Community Colleges Board of Governors meeting on July 17, the Board of Governors adopted a resolution formally recognizing Compton College as the 114th California Community College.
The next steps in the accreditation process are now underway. We will begin to work on the Compton College Quality Focused Essay special report, due to ACCJC by November 30. Work will also continue on implementing the items cited in the future plans section of the ECC Compton Center Self-Evaluation Report and complete the "Decision Making and Governance Manual for the Compton District and Compton College." In addition, a timeline will be developed for implementing the recommendations for improvement cited in the External Evaluation Report. We have prepared a timeline for completion of our next and final step, which includes El Camino Community College District and the Compton Community College District submitting a substantive change proposal, which is a "change in control of the institution" request to ACCJC, asking that the Compton Community College District assume authority over Compton College. Our goal is to submit the substantive change proposal "change in control of the institution," to the ACCJC by August 1, 2018. We hope Compton College will be able to offer summer 2019 under the authority of the Compton Community College District.
