ECC Welcomes Two New VPsJane Miyashiro, vice president, human resources

Please join us in welcoming two new vice presidents. Jane Miyashiro, vice president, human resources, began her new position July 3; Ross Miyashiro, vice president, student services, is scheduled to join the El Camino College team on Sept. 18. Please note that the two new vice presidents are not related.

Ms. Miyashiro is a human resources professional with 18 years of experience within higher education. She most recently served as the vice president for human resources and development at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Ms. Miyashiro also previously worked in human resources management at USC for 15 years. After earning a bachelor's degree from UCLA, Ms. Miyashiro continued her education at Northern Illinois University where she earned a master's degree. She also holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certificate.

Ms. Miyashiro is an accomplished human resources leader and we look forward to her expertise and experience in all aspects of the college's human resources management and organizational development. The Human Resources Office is located in the Communications Building, room 204.

Mr. Miyashiro has more than 20 years of experience in student services at both the university and community college level. His career in student services began at California State University, Monterey Bay in 1994, serving as a coordinator of the Student Information Center, and progressing to director of academic advising and articulation in 1996. Mr. Miyashiro then became associate director of transfer and student programs at the CSU Office of the Chancellor. In 2001, he accepted a position as the dean of enrollment services at Long Beach City College, where he participated in the development of the Long Beach Promise, the leading model in community college promise programs. He most recently served as vice president of student services at Coastline Community College.

Mr. Miyashiro earned a Master of Arts in educational counseling from CSU San Bernardino and is currently in the dissertation phase of his doctorate. A data-driven decision maker, Mr. Miyashiro believes in technology to support and serve students. We look forward to his commitment to innovative student service practices, a focus on instilling outstanding customer service to students, and attention to improving the student experience as he joins the El Camino College community. The Vice President Student Services Office is located in the Communications Building, room 201.
