Safety Matters
Work continued throughout the summer on a number of campus safety initiatives.
The Active Shooter Response Training program continued this summer, supporting a second “Emergency Preparedness and Response Training” session for building captains and floor leaders for those not able to attend the April session. This training provided information and direction on the role of emergency responders to any incident that may arise. Thank you to Sergeant Harry Van, community college liaison with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and ECC alumnus for leading this session. Additional trainings will be scheduled in the fall.
Also this summer, several exterior doors were replaced and the annual fire alarm and fire extinguisher testing/replacement programs were completed.
Door locks will be installed on classroom doors as allowed by Fire Code.
Information Technology Services (ITS) has nearly completed installation of telephones throughout campus. All newly installed phones go through a programming and testing process to ensure the phones operate effectively. All phones include a direct 911 line that connects to campus police, as well as a speaker for broadcasting safety announcements.
This summer’s C-CERT session included 13 ECC and ECC Compton Center staff members bringing the total number of graduates to 40. Thank you to everyone who has completed this course designed to improve the college’s emergency response and recovery efforts. A new course begins this fall – registration is open now!
