DUI Awareness Fair Scheduled with Substance Abuse Prevention Expo
El Camino College will sponsor its 18th Annual South Bay DUI Awareness Fair, featuring displays and interactive demonstrations that convey the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The event is free, open to the public, and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 31 near the Library Lawn. This year, Student Health Services will sponsor a Substance Abuse Prevention Expo in conjunction with the DUI Awareness Fair. The expo will feature awareness information, valuable resources and prevention activities and coincides with Substance Abuse Prevention Month. The Substance Abuse Prevention Expo is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Library Lawn.
Scheduled just in time for Halloween and the beginning of the holiday season, the DUI Awareness Fair is designed to share information about the dangerous consequences that can come from driving under the influence or getting into a car that is operated by someone under the influence. The El Camino College Police Department, in conjunction with the Avoid the 100 West DUI Task Force, will sponsor this event. The work of El Camino College Police Department officers has been honored by awards from MADD at both the local and state levels. ShakeOut: Are You Ready?
Are you ready to ShakeOut? Watch for the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill, scheduled for Oct. 18 on the El Camino College campus. Students and employees will learn how to be earthquake safe, joining millions of other schools, businesses, cities, firefighters, police and others who will participate in the event. At 10:18 a.m., all El Camino College students, faculty and staff will "Drop, Cover, and Hold On," and then begin an orderly evacuation of buildings.
Instructions for Staff

- STAY CALM AND DUCK, COVER, AND HOLD ON UNTIL FUTHER NOTICE. Take refuge under a sturdy object.
- After approximately one minute, the earthquake simulation will end, and you should SHELTER IN PLACE until you receive further notice.
- When given notice or when the fire alarms are activated, you will begin to EVACUATE in an orderly manner to the building's designated assembly area.
- As you begin to evacuate, take DIRECTION to your assembly area from your building emergency responders.
- Stay in your assembly area until given notice by the Building Captain to return to the building. END OF DRILL
Thank you for your participation in this important exercise that will help us prepare for earthquakes. Visit www.shakeout.org for more earthquake safety information.
