Student Equity Plan
The El Camino College Student Equity Plan (SEP) was recently praised by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office as “a well-constructed plan that could be used as models for other colleges.” Equity plans from across the state were submitted and a panel of 42 volunteers representing faculty, students, researchers, and administrators determined that El Camino College’s plan was one of the seven best in California.
In the immediate future, SEP goals are to increase college access, course completion, ESL and basic skills completion, degree and certificate completion, and transfer rates.
As outlined in the SEP, the college will build upon successful programs already in place, such as the new Knowledgeable, Engaged, Aspiring Students (KEAS) Program, Reading Success Center, the Math Tutoring Center, Puente and Project Success. These programs already provide services targeting economically disadvantaged students, racial and ethnic cohorts, foster youth, and basic skills students. The Student Equity Plan provides additional support in the form of personnel, counselors, and tutoring. Collaboration efforts between Student Equity, the Student Success and Support Programs (SSSP) and the Basic Skills Initiative (BSI) are underway to develop additional interventions that address further equity gaps.
The ECC Student Equity Plan can be found here. Thank you to everyone who worked on this important project.
