Emergency Training
A campuswide Emergency Training Drill is scheduled for Nov. 9. Watch for more info!

Phone Update
Phones have been purchased for classrooms and other instructional areas and 90 have been installed. The El Camino Police Department has verified that all 911 calls from campus phones connect directly to ECC police. All phones also have a speaker for broadcasting safety announcements.

Door Locks
More doors are outfitted with Lock Bloks for security as allowed by Fire Code. When engaged, the Lock Blok slide prevents the door from being able to close completely. Leaving the slide in this position will prevent the door from closing the way it normally would, preventing the latch and lock from working. (Added benefit: Students are able to easily enter or exit the classroom without disturbing others.) By moving the slide away from the edge of the door, the door will close completely and engage the latch/lock.

Other locking devices are also in use across campus. We will provide information on additional locking devices in a future edition of “President’s News”. The goal is to have everyone become familiar with the various types of safety locks so they will be prepared for safety across campus.

Get Ready to ShakeOut
The Great California ShakeOut is coming to El Camino College and ECC Compton Center on Oct. 20. Students and employees of the two campuses will learn how to be earthquake safe, joining millions of other colleges, businesses, cities, firefighters, police, and others who will participate in the event. At 10:20 a.m., all El Camino College and ECC Compton Center students, faculty and staff will “Drop, Cover, and Hold On,” and then begin an orderly evacuation of buildings. Visit www.elcamino.edu/shakeout/ for more earthquake safety information.
