The El Camino College Strategic Planning Committee recently completed a draft of the 2020-2023 Strategic Plan, which is now going through collegial consultation for input and feedback. Through this process, the plan will be presented to the collegial consultation campus committees: Academic Senate, Technology Committee, Facilities Steering Committee, Planning and Budget Committee, Calendar Committee, and College Council. The Strategic Planning Committee worked on the document all last year, convening several meetings that concluded with the annual Planning Summit in April 2019.
ECC's strategic planning process is guided and inspired by Local Vision Goals, which align with the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office 2017 Vision for Success, systemwide goals designed to improve student outcomes. Local Vision Goals specify timelines for improvement that are measured and reported each year by ECC's Institutional Research and Planning office.
Strategic planning is part of the comprehensive planning process. This process involves a broad internal and external assessment and brings together all college areas (educational, technology, facilities, and staffing) from a long-range time perspective to set the direction of the college for the next 10 years. The strategic planning process allows the college community to determine fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what El Camino College is, what it does, and why it does it. The Strategic Plan is a formal document that operationalizes the priorities to be implemented in a short-range period of time (every five years), and as such, guides the annual planning process.
